Coming soon...The long-awaited upgrade of Dennis Shepstone Drive from the intersection at the Old Main Brewery to the Sweetwaters intersection.The following are notable points arising from the meeting attended by representatives of our Hilton Ratepayers Association (HRA):
• The contract has been awarded to a joint venture between Major Machines and Raubex.
• Major Machines is a local company based in Merrivale and Raubex is a public company of many years standing;
• Construction will start within 28 days from the 4th April 2016;
• The contract completion date is the 4th December 2016;
• The contractors will aim to maintain two lanes during construction;
• There will be occasions however when STOP/GO controls will be required and there will be measures to ensure low speed through construction areas;
• The design includes improvements to the vertical and horizontal alignments and a walkway/cycle track. Concrete surfacing of the track will be a separate contract still to be awarded;
• The HRA stressed that good signage and communications with residents are essential;
• Communications with the construction team will be through a designated community representative – details will be sent out in due course;
• Residents will be notified in good time when work is to be done across driveways and adjoining roads;
• Copies of the design drawings will be put up on the HRA notice board near the Flight Centre notice at the Quarry Shopping Centre, and are available by email for those who are interested.
