The Hilton Eagles Sports Club, a homeschool-centred sports community, finds their home at the James Craib Field. This provides a social, outdoor and skills-based environment for both teenagers and children to participate in team sports outside of the school structure.
Ultimate (commonly known as “Frisbee”, which is however a patented brand name) is currently the fastest-growing sport in popularity – the seven-a-side game requires athleticism, coordination and skill. This intriguing sport is coordinated by SAFDA (South African Flying Disc Association), and we anticipate seeing further growth in the coming years, even in mainstream circles.
The Hilton Eagles teenage team boasts six players who have been selected by SAFDA to represent South Africa in the U20 world championships this year. Caleb Rossouw, Joel Britten, Chris Pauw, Josh Corcoran, and Sammy and Josh Harris will be working toward this milestone event, taking place in Spain in June.
On Tuesday, 3 March, come and eat at Misty Mountains Spur (Hilton) to support a shadow shift, where you can meet the players and contribute a percentage of sales to their tournament costs. On Saturday, 14 March, come attend a padel day at Howick High School, which will include bargain padel prices, a showcase frisbee match between two elite teams, and an introductory frisbee clinic. Cure House will be on site and queries can be directed to Debbie on 074 148 3102.
The next major frisbee event is on Saturday, 28 March, a tournament involving all the active teams in KwaZulu-Natal. Why not come and spend the day at St Charles and see what this major upcoming sport is all about?
