Laddsworth Primary School held the Senior Primary Inter-House Athletics Sports Day on Thursday, 01 August (Field events) and Friday, 02 August (Track Events).

Seven records were broken over the two days. The records are as follows:

Laddsworth Grade 2S, with their teacher Ms Tara Sparnon, Grade 3H with their teacher Mrs Hassim, and representatives from the SPCA, Mrs Bryant and Mrs Hoffman.

Laddsworth Primary School supported the SPCA Schools Collection ‘Donations-in-a-Bottle’ for the ‘1000 Paws Walk’ Campaign. An amount of R6899.97 was collected for the SPCA. There was a class competition to see which class collected the most money.

Grade 2 Sparnon and Grade 3 Hassim collected the most money and were rewarded with a pizza party for their efforts on Thursday 25 July 2019. The pizzas were kindly sponsored by Debonairs Pizza in Howick and delivered by Mrs Bryant and Mrs Hofman from the SPCA.

Gabrielle Benkenstein, Bahati Dakile and Ella Thorburn (pictured above) from St Anne’s Diocesan College represented KwaZulu Natal at the Interprovincial Hockey Tournament during the July holidays.

Gabrielle was named Striker of the Tournament and all three girls were selected to be part of the South African U16 High Performance Hockey Squad. The girls attended a national training camp held at Kearsney College straight after the Interprovincial Tournament.

Another cleanup day at the Garden of Remembrance (in Azalea/Flamingo Drive) is being planned for Saturday 17th August from 8:30am till 12.00.

Hilton Business Initiative is supporting this project (their gardeners have already spent a week in the Garden and will be there another week planned from the 19th).

Please come and join , if you can (even just for an hour would be appreciated), or if you can't make it feel free to send your gardener (with tools) to help out.

We still have a lot of bug weed, thick bushes and some trees to chop down so anyone who can bring and operate chainsaws with be a huge help.

We also need help to tackle the ginger plants growing in the waterway so bringing pangas/slashers and also spades/forks to dig them out would be useful. And bring gumboots too, as this area is quite marshy! 

Looking forward to making some more headway here before all the spring growth begins!

WhatTheFunk Sunday At Crossways Hilton is a DJ event for the whole family, taking place on Sunday 11 August from noon till about 6pm and features DJ JP Silver, recently returned to South Africa after 2 years in Scotland.

From noon till 3pm expect a laidback vintage lunch set with genres like Funk, Soul, Motown, Blues, Rock-n-Roll, Reggae, Folk etc. Then from 3pm the music shifts to more modern music like Electro-Swing, Funky & Deep House etc.

Around 250 grandparents visited St Anne’s Diocesan College on Saturday 27 July. They were treated to a short performance in the recently renovated theatre, a chapel service and tea with their granddaughters. It was a special morning filled with lots of love and sharing of stories.

Laddsworth Primary School hosted a Girls’ 5-a-side Soccer Tournament on Saturday 13 July 2019. 200 girls in 25 teams from schools around Pietermaritzburg and as far afield as Ixopo, participated in the Tournament.

The Laddsworth Soccer teams were very successful; the Under 9 and Under 10 Teams were the winners in their age group and the Under 11 Team were the runners up.

Grade Seven Laddsworth Entrepreneurs had the opportunity to sell their goods and offer their services to the school on Friday, the 19th of July when Laddsworth Primary School hosted their annual Grade 7 Market Day.

Items on sale ranged from pizzas and ice-cream to stress balls and tie-dyed shirts. Services included a carnival experience, hoverboard rides and the opportunity to design your cap. Many other fun activities and interesting products were available to enthusiastic customers.

Market Day brings Entrepreneurship to life as part of the Economic Management Sciences Curriculum. Pupils had to learn about business expenses, how to calculate cost and selling price, advertising and customer service, to name a few.

The well-organized Market Day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
