We managed to have tabs-in on two days last week as well as the Artisan’s 2-4-2 on Friday. The Artisan’s competition was won by Barry Best and Jo Boonzaier, while George Oldham and Thelma Mylne took second place. We thank Artisan’s for their loyal support and extend congratulations to the victors.

 

The final league results for the 2015/2016 season have been published. Our best result came from the players in the men’s third league who finished in second place. The second league players were fifth out of six teams and the ladies ended up third out of four. Well done to the men in our third league team. We look forward to winning this league next season.

 

Bowlers from Hilton participated in the Quadrangular tournament in Margate and in the NIBA mixed pairs competition on Sunday but had little to celebrate.

 

This Saturday we will be playing for chickens and tabs will cost an extra R5.

Five cricketers from Cowan House Co-educational Preparatory School, in Hilton, attended the first round of the Zonal Cricket Trials, with all five making it through to the second round. We congratulate (left to right) David Kitshoff, Tom Walters and Jordan Hellberg who were then selected for the Far North Cricket Team, and attended the Midlands Cricket trials this past weekend. Grace College pupil, Matthew Menear (Grade 12), scored 129 runs off just 78 balls against Wembley College recently and followed that up with 61runs not out against Faithway College. Congratulations Matthew on these sterling performances on the Cricket pitch.

Grace College held its annual Inter-house Gala at the St Anne’s pool recently. Sunny skies, a spirited atmosphere and exciting swimming, all made for a great Gala. Six records tumbled altogether and swimmers are to be commended for their efforts. Carmel were the overall winners, with Sinai in second place and Ararat in third position. A heartfelt thank you goes to St Anne’s for the use of their facilities as well as to all involved in making this a successful event.

On Friday 4 March February the Junior Primary Gala took place at Laddsworth Primary School where all our Foundation Phase learners had the opportunity to participate. Pool noodles, balloons and Pirate head gear added to the fun!

 

The results were:
Kudu – 206; Duiker – 195; Nyala – 166; Oribi – 129

 

The Relay Trophy was shared by Duiker and Kudu. Kudu walked away with the Winning House Trophy for earning the most points overall.

Seven Laddsworth cricketers have been selected to play for the Far North Cricket Squad. Scott Harvey, Carrick McKean, Connor Baldrey, Ayakha Mthalane, Chris.

 

Prinsloo and Joseph Hobden are in the U13 group and Luke van Niekerk joins the U12 squad.

Another busy week is behind us and despite very uncomfortable heat and humidity we had good attendances. On Friday morning we had a full field for our monthly IF Trips competition. Once again the winners of the main prizes were Horse Beeching, Rita Aitken and Jo Boonzaier. In the second spot were Chris Lake, Arthur Daugherty and Angus Snowden. Well done to all these fine players and special thanks to David Mason and the team at IF for supplying and presenting the prizes.

 

The Prickett Cup was on offer on Saturday, and was won by Fred Palmer, Peter Bailie and Nina Guest.

 

Runners-up were Jean Pluke, Vince Seale and Andy Hitchcock. Winners of the first round losers were Tom Hartley, Olga Hutt and John Bayley. Many thanks to the Quarry Super Spar for their generous prize vouchers and the enjoyable lunch with which we rounded off a hot but fun-filled morning.

 

The Artisan’s 2-4-2 comes up this Friday (11th), and Artisan’s Roll is planned for the 16th (not 20th as reported last week).

Thank you to Chris Lake for sharing his photo taken of the structure at Highcroft which is reputed to be the first school room utilised for Hilton Road School from 1903.

 

This corrugated iron building would have been completed in around 1895/6. At one time Highcroft was home to Mr IJ Van der Vyver, once a principal of Laddsworth Primary School. Laddsworth celebrated their 113th birthday on 1 March 2016.

Our apologies to Ingrid Oellermann for omitting her name from the list of new committee members. She will take over the arrangements for the management of the club house. Thanks Ingrid.

Cowan House Co-educational Preparatory School, in Hilton, was delighted to host the HeronBridge 1st XI and U11 Cricket teams from Johannesburg. This is a tour of great tradition, now in its 9th year, which provides sporting experiences and fosters friendships for the boys, parents and coaches alike.
